Dutch Master Brooch

This is one of the brooches that I’ve been creating on a mini blocked canvas.  The image of a woman, possibly Dutch was digitally printed onto white linen and slightly machine embroidered for texture.  I’ve “framed” her in a surround of vintage sari silk yarn and clusters of glass pearls in various colours, glass crystals and a mix of tiny beads.  At one point this was to have beent the completed piece but I felt I’d like to take it a bit further so I added a fringe of golden tassels and a pendant made from a Ghanaian brass bead and a hand crafted silky purple tassel. I still felt it was a bit lacking in va va voom so I added a silk cushion and attached a guinea fowl feather onto that.  This gave it a wonderful textural mix that I find very exciting.

I’ve included some shots of it against different garments to give you an idea of options.  One is a creamy soft pullover (I did take the pin through to a cotton top underneath for added support).  The other garment is a sturdy cotton canvas jacket.  it looked fabulous on both.
