It’s a long time since I’ve made a choker so I really enjoyed myself especially in exploring the possibilities of twisting rope and creating tiny rope circles.
It’s made from gorgeous South African Shweshwe combined with a fabulous African waxprint fabric. The green bead is a relatively rare antique glass vaseline trade bead. I’ve also used four recycled brass beads. These are hand made in Ghana using the lost wax method of production. This labour intensive bead requires a new mould to be made for each bead so although they look identical, on closer inspection you will see that they vary from bead to bead.
This piece works well with a variety of necklines and is very comfortable to weat. An unusual take on the typical choker necklace it’s bound to attract lots of favourable attention.
